23 Avenue Interchange Eastbound Bridge Opening September 2010

On September 5, 2010 (weather permitting), eastbound traffic on 23 Avenue will shift onto the new eastbound bridge allowing only westbound traffic on the westbound bridge and eastbound traffic on the eastbound bridge (see 23 Avenue Traffic Flow and Access Map).

Access to Gateway Boulevard northbound and Calgary Trail southbound will be accessible from both directions on 23 Avenue. East and west bound access onto 23 Avenue from both Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail will also be available at that time.

The temporary traffic signals at the intersection of 23 Avenue and the NW Service Road will be removed. This intersection will then be right in/right out only. Left turns off the NW Service Road will no longer be permitted.

In late September 2010 the 19 Avenue Overpass will be opened. Once opened, 19 Avenue will be accessible from southbound Calgary Trail via the 19 Avenue Overpass access located south of 23 Avenue, from the 23 Avenue Interchange and from northbound on Gateway Boulevard.

City of Edmonton Construction Update

Introduction

The City of Edmonton has retained Team ISL, led by ISL Engineering and Land Services, to provide the engineering and related professional services for the preliminary design, detailed design and construction administration of the 23 Avenue/Gateway Boulevard Interchange project. The interchange configuration will be based on the recommendations presented in the icon Concept Plan (388.75 kB) that began in 2001. The final interchange configuration has  been modofied based on the recommendations presented in the icon Final Concept Plan (1.69 MB).
